Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear John,

i hope you are doing well. i got your letter about your job. i can understand how hard it is to live without job nowdays. i heard about a job in a comapny called eastern health. the company located in my city. your work would be a patient observer of patients who are wander or some patients have risk of fall. so in short, you have to be with one patient at a time and carefully watch their movements and any changes in behavior. if you find anything wrong then you will immidietly call nursing staff and tell them what you noticed. its not very hectic job.

In my honest opinion, you can do this job because its very suitable with your field of study. it's better to work in the atmosephare which is well known by you.

you will glad to know that you can apply for this job online on their official website. we do not need to visit the recruiter. your interview will be online on microsoft teams.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you describe the patient-observer role, explain that it relates to John’s field of study, and say that he can apply through the company website and interview on Teams. The practical details about watching one patient and contacting nursing staff make the job understandable. However, the suitability explanation is brief: “your field of study” is not specified, and the claim that the work is “not very hectic” is not supported or qualified. The application instructions could also be more complete, for example by mentioning what information or documents to submit. Develop these points with details tailored to your friend, and close with a friendly offer to help.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you respond to John, introduce the vacancy, explain the duties and suitability, then describe how to apply. The paragraph break before the suitability point helps distinguish the main ideas, and phrases such as “so in short” and “if you find anything wrong” guide the reader through the job description. To make the progression more polished, use separate paragraphs for the job, why it suits John, and the application process. Some links are conversational but slightly mechanical, and the final paragraph ends abruptly after the interview detail. Add a closing sentence and sign-off, and use clearer transitions between the job description and your recommendation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the role, including “patient observer,” “risk of fall,” “nursing staff,” and “movements and any changes in behavior.” These terms help communicate the duties, and the message remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “comapny,” “nowdays,” “immidietly,” and “atmosephare.” Some expressions are also unnatural, including “live without job” and “work in the atmosphere which is well known by you.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “be unemployed” and “work in a familiar healthcare setting.” Vary repeated general words like “job” with “position” or “role.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both short statements and longer sentences, such as the explanation beginning “if you find anything wrong,” so you make some attempts to connect ideas in more complex structures. Meaning is generally clear, but errors in sentence formation and basic grammar occur across the letter. For example, “i hope” and “i heard” need capital letters, while “the company located in my city” is missing a verb (“is located”). “you will glad to know” also needs “be,” and “its very suitable with your field” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Use complete clauses, check subject–verb and auxiliary forms, and punctuate sentence openings consistently. These corrections would make the message smoother and more reliable.
