A friend you made while you were studying abroad has written to ask you for help in finding a job in your country. You have heard about a job in a local company that might be suitable for him/her.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter
- tell your friend about the job and what sort of work it involves
- say why you think the job would be suitable for him/her
- explain how to apply for the job
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Karan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about a new job opening. The title of the job is Fraud and Risk Analyst. One of the biggest companies, TD Bank, is hiring for this role. The work role involves checking for fraudulent transactions, tracking customers shopping patterns, making cases for claims, and doing KYC (Know Your Customer) process.
After checking the description for this role, I think you will be a suitable candidate for this role. As you have 3 or more years of experience for working in Fraud department with PC Financial, this job would be a perfect fit for you.
I saw this job opening on Indeed. To apply for this role, firstly, you have to make a Resume describing all your duties at PC Financial. Moreover, it should also include your skills, accomplishments, certificates, and references. After making your CV, you have to create an ID on the Indeed app with your first and last name. Lastly, open the link I have shared with you on WhatsApp. Open the link and upload your resume on that.
Yours lovingly,
Mahi Sharma.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points clearly: you identify the Fraud and Risk Analyst vacancy at TD Bank, describe duties such as checking transactions and handling claims, explain the match with Karan’s experience at PC Financial, and give application steps. The personal greeting and sign-off also suit a letter to a friend. The explanation is relevant and supported, especially where you connect his fraud-department experience to the role. To make the ideas more fully developed, clarify any job details that would help him judge the opportunity, such as the location or where to find the full listing, and make the application instructions more precise. Overall, the purpose is clear and the key information is covered.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the vacancy, explain why it suits Karan, and then describe how to apply. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “Lastly” make the instructions easy to track. The progression is logical throughout. Some cohesion is slightly mechanical, however: “To apply for this role, firstly” followed by “Lastly” creates a checklist-like rhythm, and “Open the link” is repeated in consecutive sentences. Combine or vary these instructions, and use a clearer reference to the shared link, to make the connections smoother and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of job-related vocabulary, including “Fraud and Risk Analyst,” “fraudulent transactions,” “claims,” “accomplishments,” and “references.” These terms make the purpose and application process clear, and the tone is generally appropriate for a friendly letter. Some word choices and collocations are less natural or precise: “work role” is redundant, “customers shopping patterns” is awkward, and “create an ID on the Indeed app” may not describe the usual application process accurately. “Perfect fit” is understandable but somewhat broad. Aim for more natural professional phrasing and precise terms for the duties and application steps; this would add flexibility and control to the vocabulary already present.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both straightforward sentences and more developed structures, such as “As you have 3 or more years of experience …, this job would be a perfect fit for you.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the paragraphing and punctuation are generally controlled. Some grammatical errors remain. In “experience for working,” the preposition pattern is incorrect; use “experience working” or “experience in working.” “Customers shopping patterns” needs a possessive form (“customers’ shopping patterns”), and “upload your resume on that” uses an unsuitable preposition in this construction. There is also some awkwardness in the sequence of instructions. Review possessives, preposition patterns, and sentence phrasing to improve accuracy while retaining the range of structures.
