Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,

I am glad to know that you completed your course with an excellent grades. I am writing to tell you that I have heard about a job opportunity in a local company that might be suitable for you.

There is an IT company in my city developing different softwares and they are looking for a software developer. I have read their job posting on the internet and it involves coding and debugging various features within their software. This role also includes meeting with their client to discuss about their requirements in their software and make changes accordingly.

I remember how much you loved coding while we were in a college and I used to check my code with you first before submitting. Moreover, you have a good presentation skill also, which will be helpful in this position. According to me, you are the best candidate for this role with your logical thinking and communication skills.

To apply for this job, you need to visit the company website and go to careers tab. Fill the form and upload your resume with your application. Let me know if you need any more information and hope to see you soon.

Thank you,

Kush

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you describe a software-developer vacancy and its coding, debugging, and client-facing duties; explain why John’s coding experience and communication skills suit it; and give a clear application route through the company website. The personal reference to checking code together makes the recommendation relevant and friendly. The job description and suitability are supported with specific details, so the purpose is clear throughout. To make the advice even more complete, include practical application details such as the closing date, required qualifications, or whom John should contact. The response also includes nine words copied from the task prompt, which are excluded from the official word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is arranged in a clear progression: opening and purpose, job details, reasons John is suitable, and application instructions. Separate paragraphs make each stage easy to follow, and links such as “Moreover” and “To apply for this job” help signal the relationships between ideas. The letter also maintains a consistent, friendly tone. Some connections could be made more natural and precise: “According to me” is an awkward transition into your recommendation, while “also” in “you have a good presentation skill also” interrupts the flow. A more direct link, such as “Your presentation skills would also be useful,” would improve cohesion without adding unnecessary linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “job opportunity,” “coding,” “debugging,” “requirements,” and “logical thinking.” These choices make the role and your reasons for recommending John understandable. There are, however, some inaccurate word forms and collocations that limit precision: “softwares” should be “software,” “presentation skill” is more naturally “presentation skills,” and “discuss about their requirements” should be “discuss their requirements.” “Excellent grades” is also the natural phrase rather than “an excellent grades.” Aim to learn common word partnerships as complete phrases, especially for describing duties and application procedures. This will make your vocabulary sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the sentence explaining that the role involves coding and debugging, followed by a relative clause describing the company. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In the opening, “an excellent grades” has an article and number mismatch; write “excellent grades” or “an excellent grade.” “While we were in a college” needs a different article or phrasing, such as “while we were at college.” In “it involves … and make changes,” keep the verb forms parallel: “involves … and making changes.” Review articles, agreement, and parallel structures, then proofread each sentence for consistent grammatical patterns.
