Student answer (Band 7.0)

Some people believe that keeping both workplace and home immaculate, with everything organised is essential. I completely agree with this view because a clean and tidy environment improves productivity and concentration.

A clean and tidy workplace, with everything placed in the correct place offers significant benefits. Firstly, Working in an organised place enhances productivity and efficiency. For example, an employee who keeps his desk well-organised is more likely to meet deadlines and perform tasks efficiently because he can find papers easily without wasting time on unnecessary things. Secondly, clean and organised environment promotes a sense of calm and improves concentration. Whereas, working in a cluttered space can be overwhelming because it is confusing, waste time, and often frustrating as individuals are often unable to find materials. For instance, after cleaning my own desk I find it more easier to concentrate and feel a lot more motivated to complete the task.

Moreover, keeping a workplace tidy reflects a sense of discipline and responsibility. For example, at a workplace keeping workstation clean and arranged creates an impression on colleagues and clients that a person is detail oriented and responsible. In addition, clean and tidy home fosters a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for residents and guests. While staying at home with everything scattered can result in chaos and irritability leading to stress. Therefore, it is important to keep home and workplace clean and tidy.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that keeping both home and workplace tidy and organised is essential because it enhances productivity, improves concentration, and reflects personal discipline.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal examples, such as the desk-cleaning experience. The argument is well-developed, covering both the workplace and the home environment as requested. The structure is logical, and the conclusion effectively summarises the main points. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more nuanced analysis, perhaps acknowledging counter-arguments or exploring the psychological impact of clutter in greater depth to further extend the ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised, with a clear progression of ideas from the workplace to the home. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct points. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Referencing is clear throughout, and the relationship between ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message with precision. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'immaculate', 'productivity', 'efficiency', and 'detail-oriented'. There is some attempt to use less common vocabulary, though it is occasionally repetitive. Some minor word-choice errors occur, such as 'more easier' (which is grammatically incorrect as a comparative) and 'waste time' (which should be 'wasting time' for parallel structure). Overall, the range is adequate for the task, and the meaning is always clear, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are error-free, there are some noticeable grammatical slips. For example, 'more easier' is a double comparative error, and 'clean and organised environment' lacks an article ('a'). Additionally, 'it is confusing, waste time' lacks parallel structure. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. The student shows a good grasp of basic sentence construction, but more consistent control over complex structures is needed to move into the higher bands.
