Student answer (Band 7.5)

Keeping an organized and tidy workplace has become a widely discussed topic across the world. Many believe that it is crucial to keep everything smartly stacked and cleaned at the workplace. I strongly support this fact and I will provide my opinions with possible examples in the upcoming paragraphs.

Keeping the workplace clean has a lot of benefits. Firstly, an organized workplace ensures discipline and motivation. Organizing everything before the work regularly can impact attention levels and helps to focus on work. Moreover, brain will get signals while arranging the workplace overtime and becomes more attentive while working. A study shows that people who keep their workplace well organized feel more active and motivated at work.

Secondly, keeping the workplace clean and well organized saves enormous amount of time and confusion while finding important documents. It is easier to find the documents when everything is at its designated place and followed properly over time. For instance, back in India, I used to work as a analyst and I lost a big client for my company due to missing documents. My files were all over my desk and I was not able to find the contract before meeting which costs us that client.

Finally, it is good to start the day with a clean and organized workstation so that brain will not have to process a lot of things which results in less stress. Moreover, keeping the place organized and clean will let the brain focus on other necessary tasks than processing the mess which eventually will surge productivity.

To conclude, I strongly agree with the fact that people should keep the surroundings clean and well stacked which results in more attentive brain. Moreover, it will reduce confusions and saves a lot of time. Also, it will increase productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal experience, such as the anecdote about losing a client in India. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; the points regarding 'productivity' and 'brain focus' are mentioned in multiple paragraphs without significant expansion. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-developed argument rather than restating similar concepts. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly repetitive (e.g., the frequent use of 'the workplace' and 'organized'). Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the benefits of discipline to time management and stress reduction. The structure is sound and supports the overall argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'designated place' and 'surge productivity'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'smartly stacked' and 'confusions' (which is typically uncountable in this context). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more sophisticated or precise synonyms would elevate the score. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'as a analyst' instead of 'as an analyst') and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'brain will get signals'). Punctuation is generally correct, but some sentences are slightly clunky. The writer demonstrates a good grasp of basic grammar, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex sentence forms while ensuring accuracy would be the next step for improvement.
