Student answer (Band 6.0)

The majority of individuals think that keeping house and work areas clean and maintained at all times is vital. In my opinion, cleanliness is mandatory to maintain personal hygiene and to reduce the risk of spreading fatal diseases.

To begin with, by keeping home and workspace clean, people can protect themselves from many contagious ailments. Dust and dirty washrooms can cause the spread of bacteria, which results in many types of skin and other allergies. Furthermore, Unorganised stuff can cause slip, trip and fall injuries, which can sometimes lead to dangerous consequences, and people can become disabled for their whole life.

For example, during COVID-19, doctors advised keeping homes and workplaces clean and sanitised at all times to reduce the danger of spreading illness.

To conclude, it is compulsory to keep the houses and work areas clean and organised to decline the danger of spreding diseases and to stay fit and healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 152 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for an opinion on keeping homes and workplaces tidy, the response is underdeveloped. It focuses almost exclusively on hygiene and health, neglecting the broader aspects of the prompt such as productivity, mental clarity, or the psychological benefits of organization. Because the response is substantially under-length, the ideas are not extended or supported sufficiently to meet the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', but they feel somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is quite short, making the overall flow feel abrupt. To improve, you should aim to develop each point into a full paragraph with clear topic sentences and supporting evidence to create a more logical and cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'contagious ailments', 'sanitised', and 'mandatory', which is positive. However, there are some word choice issues, such as 'Unorganised stuff' (which is too informal) and 'decline the danger' (which is an incorrect collocation; 'reduce' or 'mitigate' would be better). There is also a spelling error: 'spreding'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'The majority of individuals think that keeping house and work areas clean and maintained at all times is vital' (which is slightly awkward) and 'Unorganised stuff can cause slip, trip and fall injuries'. While these errors do not generally impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of control over more complex sentence construction. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and a greater variety of complex grammatical structures.
