Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few individuals say it is essential to keep your residence and your office clean with everything arranged neatly and in the right location. This essay will discuss about why I think it is a positive habit.

it is important to keep the workplace and home tidy because it increases productivity. For example, on Saturday I was tired and did not sweep the floor at home and everywhere was untidy, I could not enjoy a meal there. However when I cleaned the environment, I could eat, read and perform some activities like exercise there. Also, there is a popular saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness".

It is believed that it improves health because being in an untidy place promotes bacteria, fungi and viruses to the homes and workplace. For instance, dirty workplace brings rats which is the main host of Ebola virus. In addition algea breed from constant wet molds. Furthermore, it also reduces stress from outsourcing staffs to help tidy the disorganised offices which will tarnish the company image. Also it create a pleasant working environment for the workers. To illustrate, I'm an optometrist and on arrival at my office, I noticed my janitor was sick, i sent her home and perform the cleaning myself, my patient commend my effort and gave me some tips

In conclusion, I believe keep the home and workplace tidy and organised is a positive habit. Overall, it improves health, creates pleasant working environments, reduces stress, and increase productivity. I would love for it to be emulated by everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that tidiness is a positive habit. The ideas are relevant, focusing on productivity and health. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. The example regarding the optometrist is personal and relevant, but the claim about Ebola and rats is scientifically questionable and distracts from the main argument. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more logically extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, resulting in a somewhat superficial treatment of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'However', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences within paragraphs feel like a list of points rather than a cohesive flow of argument. Overall, the progression of ideas is sufficient to follow the writer's line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'emulated', 'tarnish', and 'optometrist'. However, there are also instances of imprecise word choice or awkward phrasing, such as 'outsourcing staffs' and 'algea breed from constant wet molds'. Spelling errors, such as 'algea' (algae), are present but do not significantly impede communication. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('dirty workplace brings rats', 'it create a pleasant working environment', 'it increase productivity') and punctuation errors, such as missing commas and incorrect capitalization. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. The writer demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb endings and pluralization.
