Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals say it is essential to keep your residence and your office clean with everything arranged neatly and in the right location. This essay will discuss why I think it is a positive habit.

It is important to keep the workplace and home tidy because it increases productivity. For example, on Saturday I was tired and did not sweep the floor at home and everywhere was untidy, I could not enjoy a meal there. However when I cleaned the environment, I could eat, read and perform some activities like exercise there. Also, there is a popular saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness".

It is believed that it improves health because being in an untidy place promotes bacteria, fungi and viruses in the homes and workplace. For instance, a dirty workplace brings rats which are the main host of Ebola virus. In addition algae breed from constant wet molds. Furthermore, it also reduces stress from outsourcing staff to help tidy the disorganised offices which will tarnish the company image. Also it creates a pleasant working environment for the workers. To illustrate, I'm an optometrist and on arrival at my office, I noticed my janitor was sick, i sent her home and perform the cleaning myself, my patient commend my effort and gave me some tips

In conclusion, I believe keeping the home and workplace tidy and organised is a positive habit. Overall, it improves health, creates pleasant working environments, reduces stress, and increases productivity. I would love for it to be emulated by everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of tidiness in both home and workplace settings. You clearly state your position that it is a positive habit. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples, some are logically questionable, such as the claim that a dirty workplace attracts rats carrying Ebola, which is factually inaccurate and distracts from your argument. Additionally, the anecdote about being an optometrist is a bit disjointed from the main point about organizational benefits. To improve, focus on more realistic and logical supporting arguments that directly relate to productivity and mental well-being.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For instance, the jump from discussing bacteria to the stress of outsourcing staff is abrupt. Improving the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence. Ensure that each sentence serves as a logical bridge to the next rather than just a list of loosely related points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'productivity,' 'disorganised,' and 'emulated.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'outsourcing staff to help tidy' is not the most natural way to describe cleaning services, and 'algae breed from constant wet molds' is scientifically imprecise in this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding overly dramatic or inaccurate scientific claims. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to professional environments would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and punctuation. For example, 'my patient commend my effort' should be 'my patient commended my effort,' and there are several run-on sentences or comma splices, such as 'I was tired and did not sweep the floor at home and everywhere was untidy, I could not enjoy a meal there.' You should focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on errors.
