Student answer (Band 6.5)

The discussion of Cleanliness is surely one that begs the question of exactly whether it is important to keep our offices and houses clean and organized. In my opinion, it is extremely important to keep everything tidy and organized and we will examine its numerous reasons and advantages with the help of this essay.

One clear fact is that it promotes happiness and positivity. Take for instance, an employee working for an multinational company will feel motivated after seeing his clean desk; down the line, it will increase his contribution of work. Moreover, people will be least likely to get any health diseases with such framework.

Another reason stems from the fact that a well organized place saves a lot of time. For example, if things are properly managed and organized at their designated places, someone who is a newly employed at workplace or a guest at our home, will never get confused in finding things. In addition, cleaning on daily basis will save us doctor's money, as it will kill most the germs.

Admittedly, critics may argue that cleaning places and organizing stuff is not very important. Because it loses the progress we made last time and it was claimed by many US researchers, if we clean on daily basis we start to lose aura of that place. However, this perspective is less convincing and benefits of cleaning far outweigh this minor concern.

To conclude, there is no denial in saying that it is important to keep your home and your workplace tidy, with everything organized and in the correct place. Since it offers so many practical advantages such as, less doctor visits, positive environment, motivation and numerous health benefits. My recommendation for the Government would be that they should start spreading awareness among their citizens, it is mandatory to clean and organize their houses and workplaces once a week.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding productivity and health are relevant and supported with examples, such as the employee at a multinational company. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the counter-argument regarding the 'aura of a place' is vague and lacks logical depth, and the final recommendation for government intervention feels disconnected from the main topic of personal home and workplace organization. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Another reason', and 'Admittedly' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the vague mention of 'US researchers' without context. The flow is generally smooth, but the connection between the final recommendation and the rest of the essay is weak, affecting the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'begs the question' and 'practical advantages'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'doctor's money' instead of 'medical expenses' and 'kill most the germs' which is grammatically and lexically imprecise. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'an multinational company' (article error), 'someone who is a newly employed' (incorrect word form), and 'most the germs' (missing preposition). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward sentence constructions that hinder fluency. The control of grammar is inconsistent, with errors occurring in basic structures, which prevents the essay from reaching the 7.0 band.
