Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of tidiness in both home and workplace settings. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. Furthermore, the word count is below the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the position is clear and the arguments are relevant, the lack of a full conclusion and the brevity of the supporting points prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you fully develop each paragraph with more specific examples and complete your final thoughts before the time limit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt (home and workplace). There is a clear progression of ideas, and the writer uses basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'In professional setting', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and the abrupt ending of the text. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of some transitions limits the score. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphs are balanced in length and fully concluded.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'well organized place for work and live' (should be 'living') and 'tide house' (should be 'tidy'). The phrase 'do regular maintain' is also grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or less common vocabulary items keeps the score in the mid-range. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise adjectives and nouns to describe environments and productivity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading, such as 'This will helps' (should be 'help'), 'relationship grow more stronger' (should be 'grow stronger'), and 'some studied show' (should be 'studies'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the writer attempts complex sentences, the errors in subject-verb agreement and word forms are noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that verb tenses and pluralization are consistent throughout your writing.
