Student answer (Band 7.5)
Certain people hold the opinion that keeping your home and workplace tidy and organised with everything in its correct place is important, but it is my opinion that that way of doing things does not work for everyone.
While I can get behind the idea of cleanliness, because living and working in a dirty space creates a hazardous environment that can result in illness and injury, I also understand that the idea of tidiness and organization poses a different situation altogether, and can mean different things to different people.
To a military personnel or someone with a military background, a tidy space would mean everything is spick and span, organized to the nines with not a hair or item out of place. However, a mum who is juggling four kids, a toddler and an infant included, could regard being tidy as organizing articles of clothing in coordinated piles on her carpeted floor for easy access as needed. A direct example of this is presented in the 2005 popular movie, Yours, Mine and Ours, where high school sweethearts reunite in later years, each having a been previously married and now have a number of children, and then get married and unite their families. The man, who is in the military, enjoys military-grade tidiness, but the woman has been a mum to 10 kids, and also designer, so enjoys her space being a little chaotic. It is shown that she knows exactly where everything is, even though things may look disorganized to an outsider, and panics when her studio is organized in the way her husband prefers.
Beyond that, not everyone has the luxury of being able to organize their living and work spaces with everything having its own place. There could be limitations presented such as small or cramped spaces that have to be shared by multiple people and therefore not having the room to organize things into, or people who have certain disabilities that don't permit them the level of tidiness preferred by some.
In conclusion, while tidiness and organization can be considered important and admirable traits, it is also important to understand that not everyone has the same definition of neatness, and not everyone can be as orderly or organized, and that is not a bad thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed the prompt well by presenting a clear position that tidiness is subjective and dependent on individual circumstances. Your ideas are relevant and supported by a concrete example from the film 'Yours, Mine and Ours', which effectively illustrates your point about differing definitions of organization. You also broaden the scope by mentioning external constraints like space and disability, which adds depth to your argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that the link between your examples and the broader societal implications is even more explicitly stated to fully develop the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'While', 'However', and 'Beyond that' to transition between ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the definition of tidiness to personal examples and finally to external limitations. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are quite long and could be broken down to improve readability and flow. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions like 'spick and span' and 'organized to the nines', which show a natural command of English. You also use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'hazardous environment' and 'disorganized'. While the vocabulary is generally precise, there are minor instances where word choice could be more academic, such as 'Certain people' or 'a mum'. Using more formal alternatives would enhance the sophistication of your writing. The spelling is accurate throughout, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional and relative clauses found in your second and third paragraphs. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally good. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'a been previously married' (a grammatical error) and 'a mum' (which is slightly informal for an essay). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. Your use of complex structures is consistent, and you demonstrate a solid grasp of English grammar.
