Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is believed by some people that keeping everything on designated places is necessary not only at workplace but also at home. I completely agree with this view because tidy places save time to find out things and increase the productivity of humans.

To begin with, putting items on the correct place can reduce time to look for it. In other words, if people need a particular thing, they will directly find in the same place where the item is organized. For example, a person is in a hurry and looks for a car key. If it is put in the key holder, they can easily get the key and save their time searching for their own belongings. Therefore, this good habit is an necessary part to make people's lives convenient and smooth without putting themselves in a trouble.

To further support my opinion, clean and tidy workplace can improve employees' performance because cleanliness allows them to concentrate on their tasks and meet the deadlines. In contrast, if the office desk is disorganized and clutter in working area may lead to negative impact on their work. For instance, if individuals put their files in various folders based on the date wise, they can easily find them and use this time to enhance their work performance. Hence, organization of things on a proper place can foster their career development.

In conclusion, tidiness is important in personal and professional places. I totally agree with this statement because of the saved precious time in order to get things on time as well as increased the productivity of staff by having more focused on projects at work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the car key scenario and the office filing system. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on productivity could delve deeper into the psychological benefits of an organized environment. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main ideas (home and workplace). Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In other words', and 'In contrast' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in referencing, such as 'the same place where the item is organized'. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'productivity', 'career development', and 'disorganized'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some collocation errors, such as 'an necessary part' (should be 'a necessary part') and 'date wise' (should be 'chronologically'). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise and varied vocabulary to avoid repetition of words like 'place' and 'things'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'keeping everything on designated places' (should be 'in'), 'without putting themselves in a trouble' (should be 'in trouble'), and 'increased the productivity' (should be 'increasing'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over articles, prepositions, and verb forms to achieve a higher score.
