Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of cleanliness, focusing primarily on health and safety. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide relevant examples regarding malaria and reptiles, the connection to the 'workplace' aspect of the prompt is entirely missing, as you focus exclusively on the home environment. Additionally, the opening sentence is confusing, as it suggests that keeping a home clean is due to 'laziness,' which contradicts the rest of your argument. To improve, ensure you address all parts of the prompt (both home and workplace) and maintain a consistent, logical position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and missing transitions. For example, the transition between the health risks and the cultural perspective on cleanliness is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'On the other hand,' but they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a way that feels mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the subject of the sentences shifts abruptly. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'untidy' and 'clean,' and there are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'compound' (which may not be universally understood in this context) and 'unfamiliar animals' to describe reptiles. There are also spelling errors like 'empasized' and 'mosquitos' (mosquitoes). To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Dirty environment breed,' 'this statement have been used'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For instance, the sentence 'malaria the is popular in Nigeria are mainly caused by...' is grammatically fragmented. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
