Student answer (Band 7.0)

In my opinion, keeping homes and workplaces tidy and organised is very important. I believe that putting everything in the correct place can save time, reduce stress and help people work more efficiently. A clean environment can also create a positive atmosphere for both personal and professional activities.

Firstly, an organised place allows people to find their belongings easily. When everything has a specific place, people do not need to waste time searching for important items. This is particularly useful in workplaces, where employees often need documents, equipment or stationery quickly. For example, if files are properly arranged in labelled folders, an employee can find a particular document within a few minutes. Therefore, maintaining an organised workplace can increase productivity and prevent unnecessary delays.

Secondly, a tidy environment can improve people's concentration and reduce stress. A messy room may contain many distractions, making it difficult for someone to focus on an important task. For instance, when I keep my study area clean and organised, I can concentrate better on my studies because I do not have to worry about misplaced books or other items. Similarly, returning things to their proper places at home can make daily activities more convenient.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that keeping homes and workplaces clean and organised is beneficial. It helps people save time, concentrate better and complete their responsibilities efficiently. Therefore, everyone should develop the habit of keeping their surroundings tidy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy7.5
Overall7.0

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The ideas regarding time management and concentration are relevant and logically supported with examples. However, the response is 13 words under the 250-word minimum requirement. This failure to meet the length constraint limits the depth of the argument, as the ideas could have been further extended to reach the word count. Because the task is not fully addressed in terms of length, the score is capped at a 6.0, as the development of ideas is slightly restricted by the brevity of the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is well-structured with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the benefits of efficiency to the psychological impact of a tidy environment. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'For example', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the central topic of each paragraph is clearly stated. The flow of the argument is smooth and easy to follow, demonstrating a good level of coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is accurate and appropriate for the topic. The student employs functional collocations such as 'positive atmosphere', 'unnecessary delays', and 'properly arranged'. While the range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, it lacks a high degree of sophistication or less common lexical items that would push the score into the higher bands. The language is natural and error-free, but it remains somewhat standard throughout. Expanding the range to include more nuanced synonyms would enhance the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The grammar is highly accurate, with a variety of sentence structures used correctly. The student successfully employs complex sentences, such as 'When everything has a specific place, people do not need to waste time searching for important items.' Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and there are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. The control over complex structures is consistent, and the writing is clear and professional. The response demonstrates a solid command of English grammar, justifying a high score in this criterion.
