Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the workplace and the home. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding office space constraints is a bit disjointed, and the conclusion is quite brief, failing to fully synthesize the points made. While the main ideas are supported with examples like allergies and office efficiency, the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well enough to be considered a solid effort.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. Cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the transition in the second paragraph: 'When it comes to staying at the workplace'. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the final paragraph feels disconnected from the rest of the essay. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is generally clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'cornerstone' and 'visual delight'. However, there are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'tide-up' instead of 'tightened' or 'cramped', and 'easy going' used in an inappropriate context. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'if the work place is being organize' (should be 'organized') and 'employees deadline' (should be 'employees' deadlines'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some mid-sentence capitalization errors (e.g., 'As a result'). While the meaning remains clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from achieving a higher score. A more careful proofreading process would help address these recurring issues.
