Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response clearly addresses all parts of the task by presenting a well-developed opinion on keeping both the home and workplace tidy. The introduction sets up a clear position, stating that a tidy workplace creates a positive atmosphere and a clean home provides relaxation and a healthy lifestyle. In the body paragraphs, you provide relevant reasons and examples, such as avoiding chaos to locate documents efficiently in offices and reducing health risks like allergies and asthma at home. Ideas are well extended and supported throughout the essay, demonstrating a clear understanding of the prompt. However, the conclusion slightly trails off with minor repetition rather than thoroughly synthesising your points. Overall, your ideas fully address the prompt and are logically structured to support your central thesis, aligning well with the Band 7 criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is coherently arranged, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, the workplace, the home, and the conclusion. You use a good variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your arguments, such as 'When it comes to', 'As a result', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Minor improvements could be made to transitional phrases in the conclusion to ensure smoother progression, as the final sentences feel slightly disjointed. Nevertheless, referencing is generally clear and the overall arrangement is coherent, making the piece easy to follow and satisfying the requirements for Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your lexical resource is adequate and sufficient for the task. You attempt to use less common vocabulary items with some awareness of style and collocation, such as 'positive atmosphere', 'unnecessary chaos', 'visual delight', and 'mental well-being'. There are occasional awkward expressions or minor word-choice errors, such as 'working at the workplace' (which is repetitive) and 'To add more' (which is overly colloquial for a written IELTS essay). Despite these slight inaccuracies, your vocabulary is varied enough to convey your ideas effectively without impeding communication. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, placing your performance comfortably at Band 6.5, which rounds to Band 6 or 7 depending on overall flexibility; given the attempts at collocation, Band 6.0 is a secure fit.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a reasonable mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the essay. For example, you successfully employ conditional and relative clauses, such as 'as, since they usually are constrained by limited office space which can sometimes lead to unnecessary chaos'. However, this specific sentence contains a slightly awkward overlap of connectors ('as, since'). There are some other minor grammatical slips, such as capitalization errors ('Additionally, When') and punctuation issues in the final paragraph, including a comma splice before 'and makes it'. The majority of your sentences are understandable, and complex structures are attempted even if they occasionally contain errors. These issues rarely impede communication, placing your grammatical control securely at Band 6.0.
