Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that it is important to keep our homes and workplaces tidy and to put everything in the correct place. I strongly agree with this opinion because a clean and organised environment can save time, reduce stress and help people work more efficiently.
Firstly, keeping things organised makes our daily life easier. When everything has its own place, we can find what we need quickly instead of wasting time looking for it. For example, at home, if clothes, keys and important documents are kept in their proper places, it is much easier to find them when needed. This is especially useful for people who have busy schedules.
Secondly, a tidy workplace can improve concentration and productivity. A messy desk can be distracting because a person may spend more time dealing with unnecessary things rather than focusing on their work. In contrast, an organised workplace creates a more comfortable atmosphere and helps employees concentrate on their responsibilities. It can also give a good impression to customers and colleagues.
In conclusion, I believe that keeping the home and workplace tidy is important because it saves time, reduces stress and improves productivity. Therefore, everyone should develop the habit of keeping things clean and in their proper places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response clearly presents a position in the introduction, stating a strong agreement with the prompt. The essay addresses both homes and workplaces, supporting the main ideas with relevant examples, such as keeping keys and documents in proper places and avoiding distractions on a messy desk. However, there is a significant penalty applied here due to the length requirement: the student's response contains only 206 words, falling well short of the 250-word minimum specified for Task 2. Consequently, the ideas cannot be fully extended and developed to a higher band level, restricting the overall task achievement score despite the clarity of the arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression. It opens with an introduction that outlines the writer's stance, moves through two well-defined body paragraphs supported by cohesive markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', and concludes effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas regarding home life and the workplace. Cohesive devices are handled adequately, although referencing and linking are fairly standard and sometimes mechanical. Overall, the structural progression is logical and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating functional terms such as 'efficiently', 'concentrate', 'productivity', and 'atmosphere'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but the range remains somewhat standard and repetitive ('tidy', 'organised', 'place'). Word choice and spelling are generally accurate, and vocabulary does not impede communication. However, the lack of more sophisticated lexical chunks and idiomatic phrases prevents the response from reaching Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or dependent clauses such as 'When everything has its own place, we can find what we need quickly' and 'This is especially useful for people who have busy schedules.' Grammar and punctuation are generally well-controlled, and the minor errors present do not impede communication. The majority of the sentences are grammatically sound, showing solid command over basic and moderately complex sentence forms, which securely places this response in the Band 6 territory.
