Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of a tidy home and workplace, clearly stating the author's opinion in the introduction that this improves well-being and life quality. Ideas are extended throughout the body paragraphs, touching upon focus, discipline, and personal development. However, the reasoning occasionally lapses into broad generalisations or slightly unclear logic, such as claiming that living in a dirty environment causes people to completely lack future purposes. Furthermore, the conclusion contains a confusing contradiction by listing positive attributes under detrimental effects. Despite these minor developmental issues, the task is adequately addressed throughout, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'Firstly', 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'In conclusion, although maintaining tidiness... it also has several detrimental effects such as, calmness, positivity...' fails logically because calmness and positivity are framed as detrimental rather than beneficial outcomes. This misuse of cohesive logic prevents the essay from reaching a higher band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'well structured', 'well-being', and 'professional development'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and phrasing errors throughout the text. Examples include 'tidy environment and well structured items on the right place' instead of 'in the right place', 'quality if their lives' instead of 'quality of their lives', and 'do crucial efforts' instead of 'make a crucial effort'. While these inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they reflect a Band 5.0 to 6.0 profile. The adequate range and successful attempts at descriptive language place it firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting various structures like conditional or relative clauses. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('clean and well organized workplace can greatly contributes'), missing pluralisation ('in every situations', 'take essential decision'), and misuse of articles ('a quality if their lives'). Additionally, punctuation errors occur, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 6.5 or higher, making Band 5.5 the most accurate descriptor.
