Student answer (Band 6.0)

Cleanliness is very important. People suggest that houses as well as the workplaces should be always clean and organized. I totally agree with this notion and I will discuss the benefits of cleaning in upcoming paragraphs.

First and foremost advantage of keeping the surroundings neat and clean is that it creates a safe place to live. Especially, at the job where a lot people come and use the stuff, the risk of infections from one person to another is too high. If everything is cleaned on time, there will be a decrease in the chances of infection and diseases. For example, a recent study shows that the individuals who like to live in tidy space tend to have less diseases than the other people. Moreover, the clean space will not attract any harmful insects or bugs.

Secondly, an organized place makes life easy. It plays a crucial role in finding things quickly. There are less chances of loosing something when it is not moving around everywhere. Cleanliness and organization speed up work. Moreover, the proper arrangement of stuff at home or job makes a person look more attractive and professional which attracts good spirits. For example, a survey conducted last year at a big banking company tells that people who always keep themselves and their surroundings clean are more hardworking, fast, and get good feedback from the customers.

In conclusion, keeping the house and workplace clean and tidy is very essential to live a healthier, easier, happier, and more constructive life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating an opinion agreeing with the importance of keeping homes and workplaces tidy. A position is maintained throughout the response. The ideas are relevant, discussing safety, infection control, and efficiency. However, the development of these ideas tends to be slightly superficial and relies on broad generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. For instance, the mention that keeping surroundings clean attracts "good spirits" is somewhat vague and underdeveloped. Nevertheless, the main points are clearly communicated and directly answer the task question. The response meets the requirements adequately, fitting well within the Band 6 descriptor criteria for addressing all parts of the task with relevant, if sometimes under-developed, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text displays a clear overall organisation with a traditional introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Logical progression is generally maintained using sequencing devices such as "First and foremost" and "Secondly". However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, the transition "when it is not moving around everywhere" is rather awkward and vague. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct main ideas. While the flow is occasionally disrupted by basic or abrupt linking structures, the overall arrangement is coherent, earning a solid Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "crucial role", "over-generalise" (conceptually), and "constructive life". However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as saying "have less diseases" instead of "contract fewer diseases" or "suffer from fewer illnesses", and spelling errors such as "loosing" instead of "losing". The phrase "attracts good spirits" is also an unnatural collocation in this context. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding the reader, placing the performance firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and relative clauses ("if everything is cleaned on time, there will be..."). There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as "houses as well as the workplaces should be always clean" (misplaced article and adverb) and "at the job where a lot people come" (missing preposition and article). Punctuation and articles show occasional lapses. Nonetheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the writer maintains a reasonable level of control over basic structures, matching the descriptors for Band 6.
