Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by giving their opinion on keeping a tidy home and workplace, supporting it with relevant reasons such as finding items easily, mental clarity, and health benefits. However, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the response contains only 219 words. This under-length shortfall restricts the full development of ideas, preventing the essay from achieving a higher score. While the position is clear throughout, the brevity leads to some over-generalisation and under-development of supporting points, placing it squarely at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a logical overall progression with basic paragraphing. The student uses standard cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Lastly', and 'Similarly' to structure the response. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical. For example, 'Similarly, many manufacturing and food production companies...' abruptly shifts the focus from personal habits to industrial practices without smooth integration. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion, ensuring the overall arrangement remains coherent despite minor mechanical faults, fully justifying a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The lexical resource is adequate for communicating the student's ideas, featuring common vocabulary related to the topic such as 'surrounding', 'garbage', and 'productivity'. There are some spelling and word choice errors, including 'oninon' instead of 'opinion', 'think clear' instead of 'clearly', and 'prodiuctivity' in the conclusion. The student attempts less common phrases like 'manufacturing and food production companies', but overall the vocabulary lacks precision and variety. These errors do not impede communication, matching the Band 6.0 descriptor for an adequate range with some inaccuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Many people do not throw their garbage out and that attract many insects...' and conditional-style reasoning. There are notable grammatical errors and tense/agreement slips throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'that attract' instead of 'attracts', and preposition errors like 'benefits for keeping' instead of 'benefits of keeping'. Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as a comma splice after 'In my oninon, This is...'. Because errors are frequent enough to cause some distraction but do not obscure meaning, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
