Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued by some that keeping a house and a workplace spotless by organising things in their proper place is crucial for individuals. I strongly agree with this view, because clean and organized places are necessary for the health of people and it also reflects about the personality of individuals.

First and foremost, proper hygine plays a pivotal role in everyone's lives as it assists people to stay fit and healthy. This is because when people maintain cleanliness at their home and workplace, they can live a germ and disease free life. Unlike tidy places, unhygienic environments give birth to some illnesses such as flu and infection. For example, in India, destitute people who have to live in dirty slums have to face some health related issues. Thus, maintaing cleanliness by being well-organized is an essential skill, that everyone should have.

Furthermore, personality of people can be reflected by their habits of cleanliness and organizing things properly. If people like to keep their house or office completely dust free and well organized, it cannot only left lasting impression on visitors or customers but it can also motivates others to keep their own places tidy. Additonally, clean places can increase foot traffic in office, and also can help to boost the sales of a company. Therefore, tidest areas are important for the personality growth of people and also to impress the customers.

To conclude, I firmly believe that by keeping personal and professional areas neet and clean, people cannot only lead a healthy lifestyle but they can also enocourage others. Also, I believe keeping things at their correct place is a skill, which evryone should try to develop.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position ('I strongly agree with this view') and supporting it with reasons and examples. The arguments focus on health benefits and personality reflection. Ideas are extended and supported, such as the example of living in dirty slums in India leading to health issues and the discussion on how a clean office boosts sales. However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalize, and some points regarding business foot traffic are slightly tangential to the core prompt about keeping a personal home and workplace tidy, though they remain relevant to the broader theme. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0, and since scoring uses whole or half-band increments, a band score of 6.5 is appropriate as some aspects are slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction that states the writer's position, followed by two body paragraphs exploring health and personality respectively, and a clear conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, such as the transition into the business impact in the third paragraph, which feels somewhat abrupt ('Additonally, clean places can increase foot traffic...'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but logical progression between sentences could be smoother in places. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptors well.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'pivotal role', 'germ and disease free', and 'foot traffic'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'hygine' instead of 'hygiene', 'maintaing' instead of 'maintaining', 'left lasting impression' instead of 'leave a lasting impression', 'Additonally', 'tidest', 'neet' instead of 'neat', and 'enocourage' instead of 'encourage'. Furthermore, 'reflects about' is an unnatural collocation ('reflects on' or 'reflects'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7. Therefore, a band score of 6.0 is awarded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like structures (e.g., 'This is because when people maintain cleanliness at their home and workplace, they can live a germ and disease free life'). There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'it also reflects about the personality', 'destitute people who have to live in dirty slums have to face some health related issues' (repetitive use of 'have to'), and 'people cannot only lead a healthy lifestyle but they can also enocourage others' (misplacement of correlative conjunction 'not only... but also'). Punctuation has occasional flaws, such as a comma splice before 'that everyone should have'. These errors occasionally cause minor hesitation for the reader but rarely impede overall communication, aligning with Band 6.
