Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many folks debate that maintaing a clean and ordelry living and working environment is very necessary.
While some people argue that a neat space is essential for productivity and peace of mind, others believe a degree of messiness is acceptable and harmless.
On the one hand, a well-organized environment significantly reduces stress and seves valuebale time. At the workplace, a tidy desk ensures that important documents, tools, and digital files can be located instantaly, which minimizes frustration and boosts overall productivity.Similarly, coming home to a clean living space after a long day provides a calm sanctuary that promotes relaxation and better sleep. when everything has a desiginated place, individuals spend less time searching for misplaced items and more time focusing on meaningful tasks.
On the other hand, some opponents argue that excessive cleaning is a waste of time and that a cluttered space does not necessarily hinder success. Many brilliant minds, such as scientists and artists, famously work in chaotic environments because their focus is entirely absorbed by their projects rather than arrangement. Furthermore, spending hours every day scrubbing and organizing can become a compulsive habit that drains time away from hobbies, family, or career progression.
In conclusion, while one should avoid becoming overly obsessed with perfection, keeping a reasonable level of tidiness is vital. In my view, striking a balance—maintaining a clean and functional space without stressing over minor clutter—leads to a more organized, less stressful, and productive lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear opinion on whether keeping a home and workplace tidy is important. The student covers both sides of the argument, discussing the benefits of organization such as stress reduction and productivity, as well as the counter-argument that clutter does not hinder brilliant minds and excessive cleaning wastes time. Ideas are reasonably well developed and supported with examples, such as scientists and artists working in chaotic environments. However, a specific penalty must be applied to Task Achievement because the word count is 239 words, which falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum specified in the task instructions. Consequently, the task cannot be fully developed to a higher band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections handling the introduction, the arguments for tidiness, the counter-arguments, and the final conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are employed effectively to guide the reader through the text. Referencing is generally clear, and although minor mechanical issues exist, the essay maintains a logical flow throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'sanctuary', 'excessive cleaning', and 'compulsive habit'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies, such as 'maintaing' instead of 'maintaining', 'ordelry' instead of 'orderly', 'valuebale' instead of 'valuable', and 'instantaly' instead of 'instantly'. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey complex arguments effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several error-free sentences, such as 'While some people argue that a neat space is essential for productivity and peace of mind, others believe a degree of messiness is acceptable and harmless.' However, minor grammatical and punctuation issues are present throughout the text, including missing spaces after punctuation marks (e.g., 'sleep. when', 'desiginated place, individuals') and spelling errors in verbs or adjectives. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response comfortably in the band 6 range.
