Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that is crucial to keep your house and workplace clean and organized. I strongly agree with this statement as cleanliness is not only good for our physical health but also for our mental well-being.

To begin with, it is utmost important to keep our home and workplace tidy to stay healthy. Filthy house which has dirty dishes, unwashed laundry and dusty floor, invites rats and roaches. These insects cause harm to food and personal belongings and sometimes result in flu, allergies and serious health issues. For instance, people who live in slums, where clutter is scattered outside thier houses, have a short life-span as compared to individulas who live in clean suburbs. Therefore, it is significantly important to keep our home and workplace neat and organized to enjoy a good health.

Secondly, a clean and organized house and office is also beneficial for our mental health. If our place is organized, it lifts our mood. Contrary, unorganized places, cause stress and anxiety among individuls. It reduces thier decision making ability and cause confusion. To illustrate, when I had lived in an old dirty apartment, I used to feel depress. Conequently, I changed my house and it improved my mental health. Therefore, it is important to keep our home and our workplace tidy for our mental well-being.

In conclusion, cleanliness is not only good for our physical health but also for our mental well-being. Therefore, it is significantly important to keep our home and workplace clean and tidy to stay happy and healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout in favor of keeping homes and workplaces tidy. The main ideas regarding physical health and mental well-being are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of how dirty environments attract pests and cause stress. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in places, such as claiming that people living in cluttered slums always have a short lifespan. The arguments are relevant and well-developed, demonstrating a solid understanding of the prompt requirements and earning a strong score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, starting with an introduction, moving through well-signposted body paragraphs using cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Secondly', and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used generally well, though there is some slight mechanical repetition in the transitional phrases. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the argument, ensuring the reader can follow the writer's line of thought easily from beginning to end.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'mental well-being', 'allergies', and 'clutter'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, including 'utmost important' instead of 'of the utmost importance', 'individulas', 'thier', 'Conequently', and 'depress' instead of 'depressed'. While these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, the frequent spelling mistakes and minor collocated inaccuracies restrict the lexical score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Filthy house which has dirty dishes...'. There are some errors in grammar and article usage, such as omitting necessary articles ('Filthy house' instead of 'A filthy house', 'enjoy a good health' instead of 'enjoy good health') and occasional tense inconsistencies like 'when I had lived'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the sentence structures are sufficiently varied to show control over basic and intermediate grammatical patterns.
