Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, well-supported position throughout, which is characteristic of this level. You clearly state your agreement in the introduction and sustain this stance across well-chosen main points such as aesthetic appeal, mental focus, and time management. Your ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning visitors complimenting a tidy home and people keeping working desks organised. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in places, such as assuming that keeping a wardrobe organised universally applies to everyone's productivity routines. To reach higher bands, you should ensure that all supporting explanations are fully developed with even greater depth and nuance, avoiding slightly repetitive reasoning in your body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, showing that the overall arrangement is coherent. You make good use of paragraphing to structure your thoughts, devoting distinct paragraphs to introduction, three body points, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, using sequencing phrases like 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly'. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or formulaic, as seen in the repetitive use of transitional phrases like 'To simplify' and 'To clarify'. Referencing and logical flow are generally sound, but the overuse of rigid introductory phrases prevents the essay from achieving a fully natural flow. To improve further, integrate cohesive devices more flexibly and vary your transitions to connect ideas smoothly without relying on predictable formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary demonstrates an adequate range for the task, allowing you to discuss the topic clearly. You attempt to use less common vocabulary items such as 'appealing', 'satisfaction', and 'well-organised'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and collocation. For instance, phrases like 'also become a routine' contain tense errors, and 'number of individuals think' misses a necessary article. Additionally, writing 'People tends' displays subject-verb agreement issues rooted in lexical control, and 'compliment regarding tidy place' uses incorrect prepositional collocation. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a restricted lexical flexibility. To progress, aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that word forms and collocations are used accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. You demonstrate some control over basic sentence patterns, but frequent errors persist in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'keeping everything organised make' exhibits subject-verb agreement failure, and 'if everything is in the correct place than it is easy' contains a conjunction error ('than' instead of 'then'). Furthermore, punctuation errors appear, such as the stray comma in the final sentence ('statement., for maintaining'). While your meaning remains generally clear despite these issues, the persistence of frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and clause structures keeps the writing anchored at this level. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence patterns and carefully proofreading your work to eliminate basic structural errors.
