Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is believed by many that an individual's house and workplace should remain clean and well organized at all times. Although cleaning can take a considerable amount of time, it keeps the place neat and inviting.

One of the major reasons for organisation is that it keeps an individual away from unnecessary hustle of looking for a specific thing when in need. If the items will be placed at their designated location, people will remember that and it will be easy to locate them even when rushing for a task either at their home or office. For instance, if the office work desk will be kept clean, it would fecilitate employees to work effectively without wasting their time.

Additionally, keeping the living and working place clean not only includes dusting or moping but also includes getting rid of old materials which are not in use. As these materials take a lot of storage space and eventually make a place look chaotic. This includes furniture, outdated documents and so on.

Furthermore, these factors can also affect an individual's personality. Messy homes can disturb the mental health in people; upon their return those after a hectic day can make them feel exhausted and overwhelmed. Instead people who adopted maintaining clean surroundings can relax after work without worrying about cleaning. Consequently, this can lead to calm behaviour, better focus and concentration.

In conclusion, keeping the home and work station tidy can not only reduce the wastage of time but also improves focus and motivation. I remained convinced that cleaning is generally important for better lifestyle because it keeps people away from unwanted chois in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout regarding the importance of keeping homes and workplaces tidy. Your ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning how a clean office desk facilitates effective work and prevents wasted time. However, there is a slight tendency to overgeneralize in places, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the discussion on personality and mental health makes broad claims about messy homes disturbing mental well-being without deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, you could further extend these supporting arguments with more specific, nuanced examples rather than relying on general assertions about lifestyle and focus.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the physical benefits of organisation to decluttering and finally to psychological impacts. You use cohesive devices flexibly to guide the reader, such as 'One of the major reasons', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the argument. To move towards an even higher band, you could ensure that referencing between sentences is entirely seamless, as some transitional phrases feel slightly formulaic, and ensure that cohesive devices never become overly noticeable in their mechanical application.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'designated location', 'fecilitate', and 'exhausted and overwhelmed'. However, there are some word choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as the misspelling of 'fecilitate' instead of 'facilitate', and awkward phrasings like 'unnecessary hustle' and 'unwanted chois', where 'choices' was intended. Furthermore, expressions like 'those after a hectic day' contain minor collocation and grammatical-word slips. To improve your lexical score, focus on accurate spelling, precise word formation, and refining your collocations so that less common vocabulary is used with complete accuracy and natural style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures such as conditional clauses ('If the items will be placed...') and relative clauses. There is a good attempt at variety, and communication is never impeded. However, some persistent grammatical errors keep the score at this level, particularly with verb forms and tense usage in conditional sentences, such as 'If the items will be placed' instead of 'If items are placed', and 'if the office work desk will be kept clean'. There are also minor awkward prepositions and phrasing structures, such as 'upon their return those after a hectic day'. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure tighter control over complex grammatical patterns, particularly future and conditional verb forms.
