Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, keeping your house and work space clean is trending. It is always refreshing to start a day and ending it on a good looking environment. I strongly believe that living or working in a place which is smart and fresh shows how someone is organised. However, there are other things that are equally important to some individuals which shall be discussed below.

There are many healthy problems caused by untidy workplace and homes. Poor hygiene is a major contributory cause of bacterial, viral, fungal and respiratory illness. For instance in Britain most houses and offices have carpets and they tend to accumulate dust more often therefore if they are not properly cleaned, individuals in the long run can develop respiratory problems. This is caused by inhailing dust from the carpets, thus why it is crucial to keep your environment safe and tidy always.

Furthermore, poor sanitation is linked to transmission of diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera and dysentery, as well as typhoid and intestinal worm infections. For example a workplace with poor waste collection management can attrack flies and those flies can spread infections on food.

On the other hand, it is not necessary an important factor to keep the home or work clean and tidy because people have different values and different goals. Some individuals are worried on what to put on the table or what to achieve to change their lives to an extend that they do not even value hygiene habbits.

In a nutshell, it is to a greater extend that good hygiene habbits plays an important role in the life of eveyone. However we cannot ignore the fact that whats important to others might not be useful to some people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support keeping homes and workplaces tidy, while acknowledging that some people prioritise other concerns. The health-related reasons are relevant, and the examples about dust in carpets and flies spreading infection help explain why cleanliness matters. However, the response does not fully explore the task’s focus on keeping things organised and in their correct place; it mainly discusses hygiene and sanitation. The opposing view is also introduced but only briefly explained through people’s financial or personal goals, without showing why this makes tidiness less important or how the views might be balanced. Develop that point and connect each example more directly to organisation as well as cleanliness to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting cleanliness, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “In a nutshell” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples generally sit with the relevant reasons. This already gives the essay a coherent arrangement. To make the progression more consistently smooth, ensure each paragraph develops one distinct point: the two supporting paragraphs currently overlap in their focus on hygiene and illness, while the opposing paragraph is much shorter and less developed. Some connections are also abrupt, such as moving from the claim about poor hygiene to the list of illnesses. Explain the link between each claim and its example more explicitly, and use referencing that clearly identifies what “they” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “poor hygiene,” “respiratory problems,” “transmission,” “sanitation,” and “waste collection management.” These terms help communicate the health argument, and the examples show an attempt to use more specific language than basic everyday vocabulary. Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “healthy problems,” “good looking environment,” “worried on what to put on the table,” and “hygiene habbits.” Spelling errors such as “inhailing,” “attrack,” and “eveyone” also reduce accuracy, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; also broaden the vocabulary to cover organisation and clutter, rather than relying mainly on hygiene-related terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures: “if they are not properly cleaned…” and “because people have different values and different goals.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction limit accuracy. For example, “It is always refreshing to start a day and ending it” mixes verb forms, while “good hygiene habbits plays” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “For instance in Britain…” also needs clearer punctuation and sentence boundaries, and “it is not necessary an important factor” is not grammatically well formed. Review agreement and parallel verb forms, and proofread longer sentences for punctuation and structure.
