Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to enquire about an advertisement for a toddler. Yesterday, I saw your advertisement in an Australian magazine. I mention the following information, which is helpful for you.
The main reason I enjoy a job is that I feel proud of myself and feel independent. I like to spend time with kids, do activities, and teach them new games. As I have completed my master's degree in early childhood, I am well qualified for this job. Moreover, I have 2 years of experience at an academy in my home country.
While I am in Australia, I will spend my free time exploring famous tourist attractions and different cultures. In addition, I like to experience authentic cuisine, so I make it myself at home.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please inform me if you need any further documentation. I look forward to your feedback.
Yours faithfully,
Almas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy working with children, give your early-childhood master’s degree and two years of academy experience, and describe plans to explore attractions and cultures. These details make the letter relevant and show why you are interested and potentially suitable. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. For example, “I feel proud of myself and feel independent” gives a general reason for wanting the job, while your experience is not linked to specific childcare duties or achievements. The free-time point is also brief, and “I make it myself at home” does not clearly explain how you would experience Australian cuisine. Add concrete examples of your childcare skills and clarify this plan.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your enquiry, explain your interest and qualifications, describe your free-time plans, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate the main topics, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In addition” make relationships between ideas easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of progression. To make the flow more natural and flexible, avoid formulaic or unclear transitions. For instance, “I mention the following information, which is helpful for you” does not smoothly introduce the details that follow. A more direct transition would help, and the qualification and experience could be connected explicitly to the responsibilities of caring for the child.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “early childhood,” “experience,” “tourist attractions,” and “authentic cuisine.” These choices communicate your qualifications and interests clearly, and you attempt some more specific language. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, which limits the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. “An advertisement for a toddler” suggests the advertisement is about a toddler rather than a childcare position, while “at an academy” does not make the nature of your work clear. “I make it myself at home” is also an awkward way to describe trying local food. Choose more precise collocations and wording so the reader can understand your intended meaning immediately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause “As I have completed my master's degree in early childhood” and the time clause “While I am in Australia.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following your message. Some grammatical choices are less accurate or consistent, however. “The main reason I enjoy a job is that…” shifts from the specific position to a general job, and “I like to experience authentic cuisine, so I make it myself at home” has an unclear pronoun reference. The sentence beginning “I mention the following information” is also awkwardly constructed for this context. Practise using clear references and consistent forms when describing the particular job and your plans.
