Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Madam,

I am writing in regards to offer a job for baby sitting for six months along with the chance to accomodate with family of the child itself.

The very obvious reason to grab this employment is that it is highly demanding job in Australia with desired pay rates. Apart from this, the employee has the benefit to save the travel expenses as you have to perform the duties while leaving at their residence for fixed period of time.

Here, I am mentioning a few aspects to be suitable employer. To star with, the pay cheques will be issued on the exact given date with all the benefits covered in it. There would be a maintained professional and personal attitude during on and off hours of work respectively.

Apart from job description, I would like to suggest that you can spend your leisure time in Australia by visiting few popular areas nearby. As, I am living in downtown area, you would enjoy the places like cinema, restaurants, museums with short span of travel. Also, I am going to give you extra vouchers for your exceptional performance as a gift.

With regards,

Sandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to address the task correctly. You have written the letter from the perspective of the employer (the parent) rather than the applicant (the nanny). For example, you mention 'pay cheques will be issued' and 'I am going to give you extra vouchers', which contradicts the prompt asking you to apply for the job. While you cover the three bullet points, the perspective is entirely incorrect, leading to a misunderstanding of the task requirements. To improve, ensure you carefully identify your role and the recipient's role before writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To star with' (likely a typo for 'To start with') and 'Apart from job description'. The referencing is confusing because the persona shifts between being the applicant and the employer, which disrupts the flow of ideas. While the paragraphing is present, the lack of clarity in the purpose of the letter makes it difficult to follow the intended message.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but contains several errors in word choice and collocation that hinder the professional tone required for a job application. Phrases like 'grab this employment' and 'accomodate with family' are unnatural. There are also spelling errors such as 'accomodate' and 'star' instead of 'start'. The range is limited, and the misuse of business terminology (e.g., 'pay cheques will be issued') suggests a lack of awareness of the appropriate register for this specific task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I am writing in regards to offer a job' (should be 'to apply for'), 'leaving at their residence' (should be 'living'), and 'visiting few popular areas' (missing article 'a'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause confusion, although the overall meaning remains somewhat discernible. More attention to verb forms, prepositions, and article usage is needed to improve accuracy.
