Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter in regards of the publicity that I saw in a Magazine for job as a care-taker.
I would be the best candidate for this position as I have experience of personal support work. Also, I will not have to find an accomodation while I am working there by staying at your's house. Currently, I am in India and soon will be migrating to Australia on my study permit for my further studies in healtcare sector. It would be a great help for me if you hire me so that, I could also save some money for my next year fees.
During my free time I will take of your child. Additionally, I can run some errands for you. Also, I can provide pickup and drop-off service for your child. Furthermore, I am good at cooking so, I can make you good Indian cusine often during my leisure time.
I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
John.

|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt, which is a positive start. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention your experience in personal support work, you do not elaborate on what this entails or how it specifically prepares you to care for a six-year-old child. Additionally, the third bullet point asks how you would spend your free time, but your response focuses on tasks you would perform for the family (errands, cooking) rather than your personal leisure activities in Australia. To improve, ensure you fully expand on each requirement with specific details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Also' to link your sentences. However, the use of these devices is occasionally repetitive and mechanical. The flow between the introduction and the body paragraphs is clear, but the transition into the final paragraph could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects naturally to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'candidate,' 'migrating,' and 'leisure time.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'publicity' instead of 'advertisement' and 'healtcare' (spelling error). Furthermore, 'your's house' is grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to childcare and professional correspondence, and pay closer attention to word forms and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'in regards of' (should be 'in regard to'), 'take of your child' (missing 'care'), and 'next year fees' (should be 'next year's fees'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and prepositional phrases will help you achieve a higher score.
