Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform you I am willing to live with your family for six months and take care of your six year old child as per your advertisement. You will be happy to know that I just completed my Child care diploma from the university and also completed my practicum in daycare for three months as well. So, I had a better understanding how to take care of a child.
Whenever, I have some free time, I usually went to park or any garden nearby my house for spending it with the children because I really enjoyed the children's company. if you need my help in cooking , playing with them and keep them busy all the time, I will definitely deal it without any issues. After completing six months, I will gain more practical knowledge in this field. I will be very happy if you consider me.
Regards & Thanks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain your motivation, provide relevant qualifications (Child care diploma and practicum), and describe how you would spend your free time. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how you would spend your free time is slightly vague and focuses more on your current habits rather than your specific plans for Australia. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended and directly relevant to the context of the job advertisement provided in the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to your qualifications and finally your personal interests. Paragraphing is present, though the transition between the second and third points could be smoother. You use some cohesive devices like 'Whenever' and 'After completing', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terminology such as 'practicum' and 'child care diploma'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'deal it without any issues' (should be 'handle it') and 'I usually went to park' (tense inconsistency). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic structures. To improve, try to incorporate more precise verbs and descriptive adjectives that are appropriate for a formal application letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, there is a tense error in 'I usually went to park' (should be present tense 'go') and a missing article in 'to park'. Additionally, 'I had a better understanding how to take care' is missing a preposition ('of'). While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they indicate a need for more consistent control over verb tenses and sentence construction. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
