Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing to inform you that I wanted to look after your child as I Have read about it from Australian Magazine.
I am requesting to hire me for this job as I have experience in childcare. Moreover, I love spending time with kids and also I know how to deal with child.
As I mention earlier, I have experience in childcare. I have gained a lot of knowledge to take care of child according to their mood. Furthermore, I worked in childcare in my home country for 3 years. I have seen many kids during my job and always tried to make them happy, feed them and played with them. Therefore, I know kids behaviours really well.
Additionally, If i get free time, I would love to spend that time with kid by playing with them and going to park. It will be beneficial for kid to make new friends at the park and try different activities.
I hope you could think on it.
Your faithfully,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the motivation for the job, detailing suitability, and describing how free time would be spent. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why you would be a suitable person relies on repetitive phrasing regarding 'experience in childcare' rather than providing specific, compelling examples of your skills. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing salutations are slightly inconsistent with the provided prompt instructions. To improve, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive detail to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' to link your sentences. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is sufficient for this task, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band score. Ensure that your sentences are linked more naturally rather than relying on a list of transition words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite simple and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'kids', 'job', and 'happy'. While these words are accurate and do not impede communication, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'deal with child' (should be 'deal with children') and 'kids behaviours' (should be 'children's behavior'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise and varied vocabulary related to childcare and professional settings to show a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I wanted to look after' (should be 'I would like to look after'), 'I am requesting to hire me' (should be 'I am writing to apply for'), and 'If i get free time' (should be 'If I have free time'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'take care of child' and 'beneficial for kid'. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
