Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my interest about the advertisement that has been recently posted in an Australian magazine.
I am eager to get this opportunity for a number of reasons. Firstly, living with a family for six months would allow me to gain understanding on an Australian culture and their backgrounds. Also, I like talking with people who are from another nationality as that improves my communication skills.
I believe that I would be suitable person for you since I could assist you with your daily household activities including taking care of your child, which as a result will lighten your responsibilities. Furthermore, I can also prepare some meals for you six-year-old child while you are away from home.
During my leisure time, I would love to explore the country by visiting various well-known places in the town while maintaining balance with overall duties.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Rachel Zane

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for wanting the job, provide relevant details about your suitability, and describe your plans for your free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, although the explanation of your suitability could be slightly more detailed to fully reach the higher bands. Overall, you have successfully addressed all parts of the task in a clear and professional manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', and 'Furthermore' to link your sentences. While the flow is logical, the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited. To improve, you could experiment with more varied transitions to connect your ideas more fluidly between and within paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases like 'express my interest', 'lighten your responsibilities', and 'maintaining balance' are used correctly and fit the context well. There are a few minor inaccuracies, such as 'gain understanding on an Australian culture' (should be 'of') and 'suitable person for you' (should be 'suitable person for the position'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise or sophisticated collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor errors, such as 'interest about the advertisement' (should be 'in') and 'prepare some meals for you six-year-old child' (should be 'your'). These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, ensure you proofread for small prepositional errors and possessive pronoun usage. Overall, your control of grammar is solid and supports your message well.
