Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Parents,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform that I read an endorsement in an Australian magazine about a family, who is looking for someone to provise care their six-year-old child. I love to utilise my time with children because it hepls me to relax my mind. In addition, this job will provide me experience to bring up my own children in future.

Being a calm and polite person, I consider this a optimal opportunity for me to invest time with six. Moreover, many new things can be learnt. For example, how to bring smile on the face of youngster, knowing about interest of six-year child that leads to rise up horizen of knowledge as well as understand the feeling of juveniles.

In leisure time, I will spend my time in effective way by exploring new areas. Part-time job can be found. I would prefer recreational activities to rejuvenate my mind.

Kind redards,

Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining your motivation, highlighting your suitability, and describing your leisure plans. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your explanation of why you are suitable is quite vague, focusing on general traits like being 'calm' rather than providing concrete examples of childcare experience. Additionally, the tone is slightly inconsistent; you begin with 'Dear Parents' despite the prompt explicitly instructing you to start with 'Dear Sir or Madam'. To improve, ensure you provide more specific, elaborated details for each requirement and strictly follow all formatting instructions provided in the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'For example' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'invest time with six', which makes the reference unclear. The transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the overall structure could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural, flowing narrative. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is slightly weak due to the repetitive and unclear sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'endorsement' instead of 'advertisement', 'provise' (a spelling error for 'provide'), and 'juveniles' to refer to a six-year-old child, which is stylistically inappropriate in this context. You also use 'rise up horizen of knowledge', which is non-idiomatic. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal letter to a family.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am writing to inform that I read', 'who is looking for someone to provise care their six-year-old child', and 'how to bring smile on the face of youngster'. These errors involve missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and prepositional mistakes. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these slips prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and proofreading for basic sentence construction errors.
