Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Madam,

I hope this letter finds you in excellent health. I am writing this letter to request you to hire me for the position of a caretaker of your six-year-old child for half a year.

To begin with, giving a brief introduction of myself, I have previously worked as a day care school teacher. I am kind, compassionate and benevolent in nature. I have immense love for children. Though, sometimes dealing with kids could be an uphill task but somehow I love engaging with them, as it fun and rejuvenating exercise altogether.

Besides looking after, I can also help the child in studies and can indulge him/her by doing art & craft or playing different games of his/her interest in their free time. I would also recommend to enrol the child into different sport activities which will enhance his/her cognitive skillset.

Also, I would like to inform you that on weekends I prefer doing volunteering activities by helping disable children suffering from illness like autism and many others.

I have attached required documents and I hope the above information is adequate. Kindly look forward to my application and I would be awaiting a positive response from you.

Regards,

Pallavi chanchal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained your motivation for the job, provided relevant details about your suitability as a childcare provider, and described how you would spend your free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the mention of your background in daycare and your interest in volunteering. You have maintained a consistent focus on the requirements throughout the letter, ensuring the reader understands your qualifications and your personal interests in the context of your stay in Australia.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Besides,' and 'Also' to transition between ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The paragraphing is sufficient, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'compassionate,' 'rejuvenating,' and 'cognitive skillset.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'caretaker of your six-year-old child' (nanny or au pair would be more natural) and 'indulge him/her' (which is used incorrectly here). Additionally, 'disable children' should be 'disabled children.' While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring precise word usage will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'Though, sometimes dealing with kids could be an uphill task but somehow I love...' (the use of 'Though' at the start followed by 'but' is redundant). Another example is 'I would also recommend to enrol' (should be 'recommend enrolling'). Despite these occasional errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures and refining your control over verb patterns will enhance your grammatical accuracy.
