Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I recently came to know regarding an advertisement that you have posted in an Australian magazine, you looking for someone to live with a family for six months and looking after your six-year-old child. I am writing you to inform you that I am very much interested in the job.
I a currently moving to Australia for my further studies and was looking for the job. I have a joint family and have been living with small kids for a long time. Born and brought up in the joint family, I was looking for the family environment where I can easily adjust and start my new life. After finding out about the advertisement I was immediately drawn towards the opportunity . I have been taking care of my 5 younger siblings and my dog. I am very good with the kids and can easily be friend with them.
Furthermore, my classes will be in the morning so i will have enough time to play and look after the kids in the afternoon. I know that this will be perfect for me to adjust myself and cope with my homesickness.
With warm regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your free time. However, the third point regarding how you would spend your free time is somewhat underdeveloped. You mention that you will have time in the afternoon to play with the child, but you do not explicitly describe how you intend to spend your personal free time in Australia, such as exploring the country or engaging in hobbies. To improve, ensure each bullet point is given equal weight and detail. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be slightly more professional in its phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'After finding out about', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the logical progression could be smoother by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your personal background to your future plans in Australia. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'joint family' and 'drawn towards the opportunity'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'I recently came to know regarding' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'can easily be friend with them' (should be 'make friends'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations and less common lexical items would help elevate your score. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to vary your word choices to sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I a currently moving' (typo), 'you looking for' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'in the joint family' (article usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your auxiliary verbs are correctly placed. Proofreading for small slips like 'i' (which should be capitalized) and missing articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
