Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
The purpose of writing this letter is to inquire about the advertisement for the child caregiver for six- year-old child.
I was working as the kinder garden teacher for two years in Australian school in Hamilton. I have keen interest in this job as I was thinking to relocate from Hamilton to Adelaide.
Working with the children gives me confidence and sense of understanding the problems of small kids. Beside this, I need a accommodation after moving from another city, that is also solved as you offer employee to live with a family.
Lastly, In my leisure time, I can help doing house hod chores such as laundry, hovering the living area and can also help in light cooking for the family. On the top of that, I can take dog for a small walk, as you mentioned in the application about the dog allergies also.
Besides this references can be provide on request, please feel free to e-mail me for additional information.
I hope to hearing from you soon regarding the application.
Yours faithfully,
Narveer Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your free time. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. While you mention your experience as a kindergarten teacher, the explanation of your free time is slightly confused; you describe helping with household chores rather than how you would spend your leisure time for yourself. Additionally, there is a slight misunderstanding regarding the dog; you mention taking the dog for a walk, but the prompt implies you should address the family's specific needs or constraints. To reach a higher band, ensure each bullet point is fully expanded with relevant, logical detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Beside this', 'Lastly', and 'On the top of that' to connect your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit fragmented, with some very short paragraphs that disrupt the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the reference to the dog allergies which feels disconnected from the rest of the sentence. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant professional terms like 'kindergarten teacher' and 'relocate'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'house hod chores' (household), 'hovering' (hoovering/vacuuming), and 'I hope to hearing from you' (I hope to hear from you). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring you use the correct terminology for daily activities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the child caregiver for six-year-old child' (missing articles), 'I was thinking to relocate' (should be 'I am thinking of relocating'), and 'references can be provide' (should be 'provided'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent, they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the mid-range. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
