Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter in regard to the advertisement that I have noticed in the Nativity Magazine regarding babysitter for six year old child. I would like to express my interest to apply for this position.

Currently, I am working with an agency and provide child care services for more than 5 families. In addition to that I have seven years of experience of working as a early childhood educator at Wilson Avenue School. From my previous work experiences I believe that I have gained sufficient skills and experiences to day well in this role. I am also willing to help with light housekeeping and meal preps. Taking care of kids makes me happy and much more satisfaction as compared to other jobs. I consider this as an opportunity to become a significant part of their life by which I can make a slight impact on her personality and life.

Thank you so much for considering my application. Feel free to reach to me in the give cell phone number.

Kind regards,

Anna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses the first two bullet points well, detailing your experience as an educator and your willingness to assist with household tasks. However, the third bullet point—explaining how you would spend your free time in Australia—is completely missing from your response. This is a significant omission that prevents the task from being fully addressed. To improve, ensure you carefully check the prompt requirements against your plan before writing. While your tone is appropriate for a formal application, the failure to cover all parts of the instructions limits the score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is generally easy to follow, and you have used some basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition to that' and 'From my previous work experiences'. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained in one block, which makes it difficult to distinguish between the different points. Using separate paragraphs for each bullet point would significantly improve the logical flow and structure of your writing. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall organization would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'early childhood educator' and 'significant part'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'day well' (likely a typo for 'do well') and 'reach to me' (should be 'reach out to me' or 'contact me'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. You rely on fairly standard phrasing; incorporating more specific collocations related to childcare or professional applications would enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'regarding babysitter for six year old child' (missing articles: 'a babysitter' and 'a six-year-old child') and 'makes me happy and much more satisfaction' (inconsistent structure). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences could be refined for better clarity. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding articles and parallel structures.
