Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Forhadur Rahman came to Australia for my MSc degree 1 years back. Recently, I saw an advertisement in an Australian magazine you are looking for baby sitter for your six-year-old child. As I am studying and need money for personal uses, I think I can help.
I am very much friendly with kids specially below eight years of old. Even I have a nephew five years of old in my home country. He loves to spend time with me, also children of this age loves show their activity to their elders. I am very fimilier with this age group of kids. So, I think your child will not feel bored around me.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address all parts of the task. While you explain why you want the job and provide some details regarding your suitability, you completely omit the requirement to describe how you would spend your free time in Australia. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits your ability to develop your ideas. To improve, ensure you address every bullet point in the prompt and expand on your points with specific examples or details to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into two short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is a basic attempt at logical sequencing, but the lack of cohesive devices makes the writing feel disjointed. For example, the transition between your background and your suitability for the role is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to connect your sentences and ensure your ideas flow more naturally from one to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which restricts your ability to convey your message with precision. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'fimilier' (familiar) and 'friendly with kids' (should be 'good with children'). The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'below eight years of old'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to childcare and professional correspondence. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and precise nouns will help you express your suitability for the position more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am Forhadur Rahman came to Australia' (incorrect verb tense/structure), '1 years back' (should be 'a year ago'), and 'children of this age loves' (subject-verb agreement error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and sentence construction. Proofreading for common errors like pluralization and article usage will also help improve your accuracy.
