Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I recently saw an advertisement in an Australian magazine about taking care of a six month old child along with living with the family for these month.
I am writing this letter to express my interest in this position as I graduated from Early childhood diploma and was looking for similar role. A part from this, I enjoy working around kids and nurturing them.
According to me, I would be a good fit in this position as I have worked in a day care for three years. Where I use to give one to one care to kids along with preparing their meals while keeping their nutrition in mind.
I have not been to Australia before so, during my visit in my spare time I would go out for sight seeing as I have heard that Australia is a beautiful country full of mountains and beach.
Thank you for considering my application. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with you.
Yours Sincerely,
Dhara

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your plans for free time. However, there is a significant factual error in your opening paragraph where you state the child is 'six month old,' whereas the prompt specifies a 'six-year-old child.' This indicates a lack of attention to detail. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, your plans for free time are quite generic. To reach a higher band, ensure you read the prompt carefully and provide more specific, elaborated details regarding your experience and your intentions for your stay in Australia.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic paragraphing to separate your ideas, which makes the letter easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'A part from this' and 'According to me' are used to transition, but they feel slightly unnatural or misused in this context. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing between sentences is smoother to create a more natural flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'nurturing,' 'one to one care,' and 'nutrition.' However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'working around kids' (better: 'working with children') and 'sight seeing' (should be one word: 'sightseeing'). There is also a spelling error in the first paragraph ('these month' instead of 'six months'). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'I graduated from Early childhood diploma' is missing an article ('an'), and 'Where I use to give' should be 'used to.' Additionally, 'during my visit in my spare time I would go out for sight seeing' is a bit clunky. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
