Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to let you know that I have read your advertisement in the magazine that you need someone to take of your child and it would be great if you provide me this opportunity because I recently completed my ECE level 2 and I also have well experience in a day-care of 2 years and i am pretty sure that you recommend the experienced one.

Moving further, as every parents wants best for their child so here I would like to gurantee you that I will give my best to you in every term and I will not hesitate if you need me even at midnight.

However, I came here to visit my relatives for 7 months and all are working here, so everyone is busy in their life and I also thought if I have an experience in day-care so I will be suitable for this job and I can also spend my time during my vacation. I hope to see you soon.

Thanks and Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, your explanation of how you would spend your free time is vague and lacks detail, focusing more on your current situation than on your future plans in Australia. To improve, ensure that each bullet point is expanded with specific, relevant details. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be more professional in its structure and phrasing to better suit the context of applying for a childcare position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions like 'Moving further' and 'However' are used, but they do not always connect the ideas logically or naturally. For instance, the transition 'However' at the start of the third paragraph does not accurately reflect the relationship between the ideas presented. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs, ensuring that each transition serves a clear logical purpose.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'advertisement', 'opportunity', and 'day-care'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'well experience' instead of 'extensive experience' or 'good experience'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'gurantee'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to childcare and professional communication. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your ideas with greater accuracy and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'as every parents wants' (subject-verb agreement), 'if you need me even at midnight' (slightly awkward phrasing), and 'I also thought if I have an experience' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage. Reviewing basic sentence construction will help reduce these errors and improve the overall clarity and professionalism of your writing.
