Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to show my enthusiasm to look after your children while living in your family.
I am so excited for this job position because i am loving to play with kids. Also, you are offering the option of living in your family which is quite interesting for me. It will not only save a lot of money which can be disposed on travel and to find accommodation but also give me the experience to live with the foreign family. It will be a great opportunity to learn new culture, traditions and values.
I am so eager to take care for your child because i have pursued a diploma in early childhood care and i have the experience of 3 years in the same domain. My foreign language proficiency, adaptability and flexibility would be a great asset to do this job.
During my leisure time, i will visit the various culturel centres, such as museums, old buildings etc. Visiting the libraries and the sight-seeing places is my hobby. I prefer reading the novels, watching the television and listen to music to reduce the monotony and the mental stress.
Please, send me the exact starting date for this work and the required paper work as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Ramandeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for the job, provided relevant details regarding your qualifications and experience, and outlined your plans for your free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing the reader with a clear picture of your suitability for the role. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening statement is more natural; for example, instead of 'show my enthusiasm to look after', you could use 'express my strong interest in the position'. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also', 'In addition', and 'During my leisure time', to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. For instance, the transition between discussing your qualifications and your free time could be more fluid. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the structure is clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'early childhood care', 'domain', and 'adaptability'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'disposed on travel' (should be 'spent on travel') and 'take care for' (should be 'take care of'). Additionally, 'monotony' is used correctly, but the phrasing 'reduce the monotony' is slightly formal for this context. Expanding your range of collocations would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you show good control over basic grammar, there are several persistent errors. For example, you frequently use 'i' instead of the capitalized 'I'. There are also minor errors in article usage, such as 'the foreign family' (should be 'a foreign family') and 'the various culturel centres' (should be 'various cultural centres'). Your verb forms are generally accurate, but watch out for small slips like 'i am loving to play' (should be 'I love playing'). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear and communication is not impeded.
