Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I, Harsh Patel, recently read about an advertisement in an Australian magazine that you are looking for a person to hire who can not just only live with your family but can also look after your six-year old child.
I have just got my permanent residency of Australia and moved here in Sydney and looking for the day care or child-care job as I am professional in this field and having a 10 years of experience as a child-care specialist. I choose this career because I really love spending time with children as it always remind me my childhood.
Here with this letter, I will attach some reviews and contact details of my previous clients so that you can verify my work. Please feel free to contact my old clients if you wants to ask about my customer service.
Childcare is not just a hobby for me, it plays a vital role in my life as it connects me to a new child every time I get the new client. While I am here in Australia for my new chapter, I will spend most of the time to gain Australian experience in child-care as well as work towards my personal health.
Please feel free to contact me on my number if you need anything else from my side.
Your sincerely,
Harsh Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain your motivation, highlight your extensive experience as a childcare specialist, and outline your plans for your free time in Australia. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. While the experience is well-highlighted, the section regarding your free time is a bit vague, focusing more on personal health rather than specific activities or interests that might be relevant to a family setting. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are developed with equal depth and clarity, maintaining a consistent professional tone throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I' to start sentences. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. For example, the link between your professional experience and your personal health goals in the final body paragraph feels slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'permanent residency', 'child-care specialist', and 'vital role'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'I choose this career' (should be 'chose') and 'remind me my childhood' (should be 'reminds me of my childhood'). Additionally, the phrasing 'I, Harsh Patel, recently read about an advertisement' is slightly unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations and avoiding minor errors would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'not just only' (redundant), 'having a 10 years of experience' (incorrect article usage), and 'if you wants to ask' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
