Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to seek the opportunity which was advertised in an Australian Magazine, I am interested to discuss further regarding this role.

I have worked as a Early Child Assistant for 3 years in the Public School. Moreover, my interest aligns better with this role as I have skill to work with family especially children. I also get engaged with them personally and professionally helping them by handling their issues and taking care of them.

As I have certifications and skills to handle family and children, I can be a perfect match for this role. Even I have proper knowledge and understanding of this job because of the outstanding past experience in the relevant field.

It would be a better opportunity for me to spend most of the time with family as I have been staying alone for long time. I can keep engaged with family and the kid by social and educational activities.

I would like to request you to inform me if you need any additional details.

Kind Regards,

Priyanka

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain your motivation, highlight your experience as an Early Child Assistant, and mention how you would spend your free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the section on free time is vague; mentioning 'social and educational activities' lacks the specific detail that would make your letter more engaging and persuasive. To improve, try to elaborate on specific hobbies or interests you would pursue in Australia, such as visiting local landmarks or joining community sports, to provide a more vivid picture of your personality.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'As I have', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between your professional experience and your personal interest in the family could be better linked to show a more cohesive narrative. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through your arguments more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'certifications', 'professionally', and 'relevant field'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'get engaged with them' and 'staying alone for long time'. These do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions appropriate for a formal letter. Expanding your vocabulary related to childcare and personal development will also help you express your suitability for the role more convincingly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'a Early Child Assistant' (should be 'an'), 'in the Public School' (unnecessary article), and 'I have skill to work' (should be 'the skills'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'I am interested to discuss further regarding this role'. While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your writing.
