Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 8.5)
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing to express my enthusiastic interest in your advertisement published in the Aussie Families magazine. I would love the opportunity to live with your family for six months and care for your six-years-old child.
I am deeply drawn to this position because it perfectly combines my professional interest for early childhood development along with living in Australia. working as a live in caregiver allows me to form a deeper and a meaningful connection with the child and provide stable, consistent support that truly benefits a busy household. I find helping children learn, play and navigate their daily routines to be immensely rewarding
I am highly suitable for this role due to my extensive childcare experience. I hold a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and I am fully certified in pediatric first aid and CPR. For the past two years, I have worked as a full-time preschool teacher, which has given me a thorough understanding of the developmental needs and energetic nature of six-year-olds. I excel at organizing safe, creative, and educational activities, and I am highly practiced in managing meal preparation, school routines, and bedtime schedules with patience and warmth.
During my free time, I plan to immerse myself in the local community and nature. As an avid outdoors enthusiast, I look forward to exploring Australia’s famous coastal trails and national parks on my days off. I also hope to visit local museums, galleries, and markets to better understand Australian history and cultural life.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my background further during a video interview.
Yours faithfully,
XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 9.0
You have fully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for the role, provided strong evidence of your suitability through your educational and professional background, and detailed your plans for your free time. The tone is consistently appropriate for a formal letter of application, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. You have used a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'For the past two years' and 'During my free time', which help guide the reader through your response. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is professional and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 8.0
You demonstrate a wide and natural range of vocabulary that is well-suited to the context of a job application. Phrases like 'enthusiastic interest', 'early childhood development', 'immerse myself', and 'avid outdoors enthusiast' show a high level of lexical control. There is a minor error in 'six-years-old child' (should be 'six-year-old'), but this is a minor slip that does not impede communication. The vocabulary is precise and contributes to the professional tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
You use a variety of complex sentence structures with a high degree of accuracy. Your control over verb tenses and subordinate clauses is strong, as seen in sentences like 'I am deeply drawn to this position because it perfectly combines my professional interest...'. There are very few errors; for instance, 'working as a live in caregiver' should be hyphenated ('live-in'), and there is a missing capital letter at the start of that sentence. However, these are rare, non-systematic slips that do not detract from the overall high quality of your writing.
