Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in the job that was posted recently in an Australian magazine to look after a 6 year old child while living with a family.
I would like this job as it aligns with my skills and experience because I have five years of experience in the child care center from my home country. So I can deal in an effective way with the children.
I would be perfect person for this job as I moved recently in Australia and I am looking for job in a same field. Moreover, I am full time available, so I can stay with a child all the time, whenever need. In the meanwhile, I can teach some valuable things while spending time with them. I love to spend time with children.
I would love to spend my leisure time by visiting renowned places nearby the area. Apart from that, I love nature, so would like to visit the parks and enjoy my favourite activities.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your leisure plans. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, when discussing your suitability, you mention having five years of experience, but you could have provided more specific examples of your childcare duties to make your application more persuasive. Similarly, your plans for free time are a bit generic. Expanding on these points with more detail would help you reach a higher band score by demonstrating a more thorough development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'Apart from that,' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure makes the letter easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'aligns with my skills,' 'effective way,' and 'renowned places' are used correctly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and repetitive in places, such as the frequent use of 'time' and 'job.' To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise, less common collocations related to childcare or professional applications. For example, instead of 'deal in an effective way,' you could use 'manage children effectively' or 'provide high-quality care.' Your spelling is accurate throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'experience in the child care center from my home country' should be 'at a childcare center in my home country,' and 'I moved recently in Australia' should be 'I recently moved to Australia.' Additionally, 'I am full time available' is awkward; 'I am available full-time' is more natural. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over word order and preposition usage.
