Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to your advertisement in Australian magazine for someone to live with your family for half a year and look after your six-years old child.
I would really like this job because I want to explore not only Australian culture but also cuisines. At the same time, it would be an opportunity for me to improve my communication skill by sharing thoughts and idea with each other.
I think I would be suitable for this job as i have experience in the field of home care worker and child care support centre. I am very responsible and caring person and enjoy helping children in their homework and in cooking healthy meal.
I can spend my free time in helping your family in many ways such as going out for a walk, buying groceries, shopping and taking your child to park for some activity which make your child healthy and strong.
I would really appreciate if you consider me for this position.
Yours Sincerely,
Lovejeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your motivation for wanting the job, detail your relevant experience in childcare, and outline how you would spend your free time. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, when discussing your free time, you focus on tasks that seem more like additional childcare duties rather than personal leisure activities. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully extended and clearly distinguished from the job requirements to better demonstrate your personality and interests to the potential employers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At the same time' and 'In addition' (though 'In addition' was implied rather than explicitly used). However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this job', 'your child') is consistently precise to improve the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'responsible', and 'caring'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'six-years old child' (should be 'six-year-old child') and 'communication skill' (usually plural 'skills'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and varied descriptive language to make your application stand out.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in Australian magazine' should be 'in an Australian magazine') and subject-verb agreement issues ('which make your child' should be 'which makes your child'). Additionally, the pronoun 'i' should always be capitalized. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic articles, capitalization, and pluralization to improve your accuracy.
