Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in the advertisement you had recently posted in the Australian magazine, looking for someone who could stay with your family and be the nanny of your six-year- old kid.
I would love this opportunity to be your child's nanny. Overall, I love being around children and knowing they are the innocent creatures, they not judgemental. Personally as a mother of two, I feel I've better understanding of them, be it their needs or understanding their langauge. I also feel that I fit best for this role as I have previous experience working as a Early Childhood Educator in daycare.
Since I am would be here for a longer time, I would be glad to spend some weekends with your family while someI with my family as well, who live in nearby town.
I would be grateful if I am given this opportunity and promise I'ill not let you down. I hope you consider me for this position. I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your motivation for the job, provided relevant details about your background as a mother and an Early Childhood Educator, and mentioned your plans for free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the section regarding your free time is quite brief and lacks specific detail about what you might do in Australia beyond visiting family. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more descriptive language and specific examples to fully develop your response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, beginning with an introduction, moving through the required points, and ending with a polite closing. Paragraphing is present, though the body paragraphs are quite short and could be better balanced. You use some cohesive devices like 'Personally' and 'I also feel', but the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical at times. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea to enhance the overall progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'Early Childhood Educator' and 'opportunity'. However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'innocent creatures' and 'fit best for this role', which sound slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary that is appropriate for a formal letter. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your thoughts more fluently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'advertisement you had recently posted' (tense error), 'they not judgemental' (missing verb), 'I am would be' (redundant auxiliary), and 'I'ill' (spelling/contraction error). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will significantly improve your score.
