Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the vacancy for a babysitter.
I have seen your advertisement in a famous Australian Magazine that you are interested in hiring somebody to look after your six-year old child. I am fascinated to grab this opportunity. I have a significant amount of interest in the position of babysitter. Innocence of toddlers generally impresses me. The most interesting thing is that I can stay with your family which reduces my living expenses.
I believe that I would be the right match for this position because I have completed a degree in early childhood education and got an experience of 5 years in daycare center. Moreover, I am also a mother so I am familiar with baby needs.
I usually keep myself busy with household chores. When I get the free time I generally spend it doing productive tasks such as gardening, house cleaning, and devote some of time for career prospects.
I hope to hear from you very soon.
Yours faithfully,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your motivation, highlighted your relevant experience in early childhood education, and described your free-time activities. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the reason for wanting the job—that it reduces your living expenses—is a bit blunt and could be framed more professionally to show genuine interest in the child. Additionally, the description of your free time is quite brief. To reach a higher band, try to expand on how your specific skills would benefit the family or provide more detail about your hobbies in Australia to show a more well-rounded personality.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between your professional experience and your free-time activities is abrupt. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'significant amount of interest' and 'early childhood education' are relevant and accurate. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'fascinated to grab this opportunity' (which sounds unnatural) and 'baby needs' (which should be 'a child's needs' or 'the needs of a child'). To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and slightly more sophisticated vocabulary to express your enthusiasm and professional background.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'I have seen your advertisement in a famous Australian Magazine' should be 'an Australian magazine' (no capitalization needed), and 'got an experience of 5 years' should be 'have five years of experience'. Additionally, 'devote some of time' is missing an article ('some of my time'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
