Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
My name is Ramanjot Singh, I saw an advertisement in the magazine regarding to stay for six months and to look after the kid.
Recently, I have moved to Australia for my further certifications in terms of opening my own daycare centre. This requires a local experience to be gain and understanding the techniques as per Australian board and it sounds apporpriate to me.
I found myself a suitable candidate for this opportunity as I have a relevant experience in the past. For seven years I have worked in a daycare in Canada and have a knowledge of great skills to lookafter the children under the age of 10 years old.
In my leisure time, I would like to spend to my time in community parks of local town to get to know about the Australian culture and ethic. This will aid me to understand the basics of children needs and how they should be nurture while their parents are away.
I am looking forward to hear back on my application.
Yours Truly,
Ramanjot Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your motivation for the job, detail your previous experience in Canada, and outline your plans for your free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of your free time is a bit vague, and the connection between your daycare goals and this specific family role could be more explicitly linked. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'Dear Sir' is slightly inconsistent with the prompt's instruction to begin with 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but more depth in the supporting details would improve the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing for each requirement. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Recently' and 'In my leisure time', to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the second paragraph regarding 'local experience to be gain'. Despite these minor issues, the overall arrangement is coherent and the message is clear throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'candidate', 'opportunity', and 'leisure time'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'regarding to stay' (should be 'regarding the advertisement for a position') and 'ethic' (should be 'ethics'). You also have some minor spelling errors like 'apporpriate' and 'lookafter'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in your word usage. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is consistently accurate in a formal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'to be gain' (should be 'to be gained'), 'a knowledge of great skills' (should be 'knowledge of' or 'great skills'), and 'how they should be nurture' (should be 'nurtured'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. Your control over punctuation is generally good, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the overall fluency. Increasing your accuracy in verb forms and passive constructions will help you achieve a higher score.
