Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the interest in the job, detailing suitability, and describing plans for free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that the house is near the applicant's 'actual home' is confusing given the context of moving to Australia for six months. The explanation of suitability relies heavily on a general mention of child psychology without specific examples of experience. While the task is fulfilled, the ideas could be more thoroughly extended to provide a more convincing and professional tone suitable for a job application.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'and secondly' or the abrupt start to the third paragraph. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the logic regarding the commute is confusing. While the overall progression is logical, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their intended antecedents.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes that detract from the professional tone. Examples include 'aligne' (align), 'behaveiour' (behaviour), and 'there' used instead of 'their'. Phrases like 'standout your expectations' are non-standard; 'meet your expectations' would be more appropriate. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary related to childcare, the range is somewhat limited, and the errors in spelling and collocation are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('there are many skills which aligne'), incorrect preposition usage ('since my i am born'), and punctuation errors, such as the incorrect salutation 'Dear Mr, Mrs. John' and the misuse of commas. The sentence 'If considering my background education...' is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
